Carpet Beetle
These are small fly-like insects of which the females with a tube for a mouth to suck blood from the hosts’ skin. While it appears there are thousands of mosquitoes there are also as many species. The saliva from the mosquito bite can cause an irritating rash. Mosquitoes can transmit diseases like malaria, yellow fever, west Nile virus, dengue fever as well as the newly discovered Zika virus.
Mosquitoes have been around for hundreds of millions of years. They are still annoying. Like all flies, mosquitoes go through four stages in their life cycles: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. They lay their eggs in stagnant water or near the water’s edge. The first three stages can take 5 to 14 days. Mosquito eggs can be dormant during low temperatures or when it is extremely dry. The moment the temperature and humidity are right eggs will begin to hatch.
Controlling mosquitoes has a lot to do with eliminating standing water either indoors or out. They come out during dusk and dawn. Mosquitoes rest in cool places during the hot part of the day.
